On June 16 and 17, 2017, long-running Nashville makers market Porter Flea will return to East Nashville’s Skyway Studios, bringing another broad, talented mix of artists and artisans out to share unique, local and handmade gifts.
As with past events, The 2017 Porter Flea Summer Market kicks off with a ticketed Friday Preview Market (6 to 9 p.m.), offering early, intimate shopping access, ahead of Saturday’s Main Market, which is free and open to the public (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Although the market’s format will be familiar to longtime Porter Flea fans, this summer’s event comes with a renewed sense of purpose and a sharper focus on supporting local makers.
Late last year, Porter Flea co-organizer and longtime contributor Melinda Vance passed away after a brief and sudden illness. Melinda was instrumental to the event’s success from the beginning, providing planning wisdom and support and on-the-ground dedication and strength, spurred by an admiration of and devotion to the artists and artisans that make up the Porter Flea community. Her personal and professional contributions are irreplaceable, but her loving, giving spirit will always be at the core of Porter Flea, and this year’s Summer Market is held in her honor. Details on specific efforts to honor Melinda’s contributions will be coming soon, including a new initiative called Makers for Melinda that's now in its early planning stages.
We hope you’ll join us in June to celebrate a champion of Middle Tennessee’s creative community, and to gather with more than 140 gifted local and regional vendors.
